Applying a discount in clinic
You can reduce what a visit costs at the chair: a model rate on a content day, a goodwill gesture, friends and family, a course adjustment or a price match. The discount comes off the visit's price before you take payment, so the balance the system asks for is already the reduced one and the visit settles cleanly. There is no need to keep separate cheaper copies of your treatments, and no need to type a smaller number into the payment box and leave the visit showing money owed.
Applying a discount
- Open the appointment in the diary and find the Payment section.
- Choose Apply a discount.
- Enter the amount, or use the percentage buttons to work it out from the treatment price.
- Pick a reason: model rate, goodwill, friends and family, package or course adjustment, price match, or other. Add a note if the reason alone will not remind you why.
- Apply. The outstanding balance drops immediately, and you take the reduced amount as normal.
The rules it follows
- A discount can never be more than what is left to pay on the visit. The system stops you creating a negative balance that would mean owing the patient money.
- A discount that covers the whole remaining balance settles the visit by itself; a fully discounted model appointment needs no payment step at all.
- Removing a discount puts the balance back, and reopens the visit if it had been settled by the discount.
- Any online discount the patient redeemed at booking still applies; the in-clinic discount stacks on top, against what remains.
Where it shows
The finance page totals discounts given this month, split by reason, so you can see what you have given away and why: your model rates apart from your goodwill, and both apart from the promo codes your marketing runs. Every discount applied or removed is recorded in the audit trail.
Discounts patients redeem themselves
This article is about money off you apply in person. For codes patients enter when booking online, see the promo codes and gift vouchers article.
