Requesting a prescription
Any team member can raise a prescription request; it then goes to the named prescriber for approval.
Creating the request
- Go to Prescriptions and press + New prescription.
- Patient: type in the Find patient box to filter, then choose the patient. Dates of birth are shown in the list to help you pick the right person.
- Prescriber: choose from your clinic prescribers or external prescribers. If none appear, they need setting up first in Settings > Prescribing.
- Items: add each medicine with a quantity (for example 1 vial) and optional notes. The Item field suggests entries from your prescription item catalogue. Press + Add item for more lines.
- Prescription content: directions, dose, site, and anything the prescriber and pharmacy need.
- Clinical justification (required): why this treatment is clinically appropriate for this patient. A request cannot be created without it.
- Press Create request.
Tracking requests
The Prescriptions page lists requests with filters for Requested, Approved, Sent, Declined and All. Each row shows the patient, who requested it, the prescriber (external prescribers are badged), a summary of the items and the current status. Open any request to see the full detail and its timeline.
Remember: the prescriber must consult the patient face-to-face before approving. Raising the request does not shortcut that.
