Buy now, pay later (Klarna and Clearpay)

Last updated

Klarna and Clearpay let patients spread the cost while your clinic is paid in full up front, settled to your Stripe account like a card payment. They are part of your own Stripe account: you turn them on or off in Stripe, and there is no setting for them in AesthetiClinic.

Switching it on

  1. Make sure your Stripe account is connected (Settings → Integrations → Payments).
  2. In your Stripe Dashboard, go to Settings → Payment methods and turn on Klarna, Clearpay or both.

That is all. To stop offering them, turn them off in the same place.

Where patients see it

Once they are on in Stripe, Klarna and Clearpay appear automatically at checkout when a patient pays online for a booking, for payments they are eligible for. The current whole-visit payment link from the diary takes card only. Older standalone balance links may offer other methods according to your Stripe settings. Stripe decides eligibility: both are for payments in pounds, and each has its own minimum and maximum amounts.

What it costs and how it settles

The fees are Stripe's: Klarna and Clearpay are charged through your Stripe account at Stripe's rates for them, which are higher than a standard card fee. The patient's instalment plan is between them and the provider; you receive the purchase amount less the applicable fees. Issue refunds through Stripe, and the provider adjusts the patient's instalment plan.

A regulatory note

Check the FCA's current buy now, pay later guidance and your provider's terms before offering finance. Take advice if you are unsure how the rules apply to your clinic.
