The patient portal: what your patients can see and do
Every patient who registers with your clinic online gets a portal: a single signed-in page at your booking address where they manage their own side of things. You do not need to switch it on. This article is what they can see and do there, so you can answer the question when it comes up at the desk.
Getting in
Patients register from your booking page with their name, email and a six-digit code sent to that email, then a password. Registering claims any records you already hold under that email, so a long-standing patient sees their history straight away. You can also send invites in bulk or one at a time; see Inviting your patients to the patient portal.
What they can see and do
- Upcoming appointments, with the details and any forms still to do. Clinics that have patient self-service switched on also get a Manage booking button to reschedule or cancel inside the clinic's rules.
- Forms to complete: any form you have sent that they have not yet finished, opened and signed in place.
- Invoices to pay: any invoice you have issued them that still has a balance, with a Pay button that takes card payment straight into your Stripe account. The same link is in the invoice email, so a patient does not have to log in to pay.
- Your receipts: every numbered receipt for money they have paid you, including card payments taken at the desk.
- Loyalty points, if you run the loyalty scheme, with their balance and what it is worth.
- Past appointments and Your details, where they can keep their contact information current and change their marketing choices.
What they cannot see
Clinical records, photos, notes, alerts and prescriptions are never shown in the portal. Forms they have signed are available to them as the signed document; your treatment notes are not.
Demonstration clinics
If you are looking at a demonstration clinic, the register and log in pages show a notice instead of a form: patient accounts cannot be created or used on a demo. Browsing and booking as a guest still work.
