Handling a product recall with batch search
If a manufacturer recalls a batch, you need to know within minutes which of your patients received product from it. Because every treatment record carries batch numbers, that is a single search.
Running a recall search
- Go to Stock and open Batch recall.
- Enter the batch / lot number from the recall notice and press Search.
What you get back
A table of every treatment that used that batch, showing:
- The patient, linked straight to their record so you can contact them.
- The product, batch and expiry.
- How much was used and the date of the treatment.
- An Open map link to the treatment map, showing exactly where the product was placed.
If no treatments used the batch, the search says so plainly, which is itself the answer you may need to give a supplier or insurer.
What to do with the results
- Work through the list and contact each patient as the recall notice instructs.
- Log any resulting problems on the patient's record as a complication, including the implicated product and batch number.
- Check your shelf and adjust stock for any recalled product you return or destroy, with a note explaining why.
This only works if batch numbers are recorded on every treatment, which is exactly why they are part of the standard record.
