Checking patient email addresses
Last updated
Email address checks help you catch mistakes when adding or editing a patient. Patients also see checks when registering or confirming a booking.
Correcting a likely typo
If a suggested address appears, check it with the patient. Choose the Use button showing the suggested email address if it is right. If the original address is correct, staff can save it without an acknowledgement; patients keeping an address flagged as a likely typo during registration or booking must tick the confirmation that they have checked it.
What a warning means
- An invalid basic format must be corrected before saving a new or changed address.
- A likely typo suggests a common correction. It is not proof that the original is wrong.
- A domain without mail records may not be able to receive email. Confirm it with the patient before continuing.
These checks do not prove that an inbox exists or that an email will arrive. A temporary lookup failure is not treated as proof that an address is invalid.
Staff records and imports
Typo and mail-record warnings are advisory on staff-entered patient records; a new or changed address must still have a valid basic format, and import-preview warnings do not block the whole import. Check the address and correct it where needed. An email warning does not block a whole patient import.
Patient registration and booking
Patients must correct invalid formats and reserved example addresses. A likely typo can be corrected or explicitly acknowledged. A missing mail-record warning asks them to check the address and submit it again if it is correct.
