Appointment types versus treatments

Treatments and appointment types answer two different questions, and the diary uses both.

The difference

• A treatment is a priced service from your catalogue: the thing being done, with its own price, duration and deposit rules.
• An appointment type describes the kind of booking: Consultation, Review, Top up. It is about booking semantics rather than a priced service.

An appointment can carry either or both. A Review of a filler treatment, for example, is the same treatment but a different kind of visit, often shorter and free.

Setting up appointment types

1. Go to Settings > Appointment types.
2. Add a type with a name, for example Consultation. Most clinics start with Consultation, Review and Top up.
3. Optionally give it a Duration, Price or Deposit. Leave a field blank and the booking falls back to the treatment's own settings.

How they behave in the diary

When you create an appointment from the calendar, you can pick a treatment, an appointment type, or both. The booking length is decided in this order: a duration you type by hand, then the appointment type's duration, then the treatment's. That is what lets a 15-minute Review type shorten a treatment that normally takes 45.

A worked example

Set up a Review type with a 15-minute duration and no price. Booking a patient in with their toxin treatment plus the Review type gives you a 15-minute follow-up slot, correctly labelled, without inventing a fake free treatment in your price list.
